Backflow devices are to be installed in accordance with the State of Michigan Plumbing Code.
The information below may help you learn how the Residential Cross Connection program affects you.

  INSPECTIONS- Residential Cross Connections
   Q: Are you connected to PUBLIC water?  
 YES: Please continue to the next question   
 NO:  We will not be requiring a Cross Connection inspection.  
   Q: Do you live in a single family home or detached condo?  
YES: You will need a Cross Connections inspection. 
You will be contacted to schedule the inspection when the inspection is due. 
 
NO:  Backflow testing and inspections are already being completed and are through handled your property or complex management company, condo association, etc. You will not need to answer any further questions on this page.  
     
  TESTING- Residential Cross Connections
   Q: Are you connected to PUBLIC water?  
 YES:  Please continue to the next questions  
 NO: We will not be requiring backflow testing. You will not need to answer any further questions on this page.  
   Q: Do you live in a single family home or detached condo?  
 YES:  Please continue to the next questions  
 NO:  Backflow testing and inspections are already being completed and are through handled your property or complex management company, condo association, etc. You will not need to answer any further questions on this page.  
  Q: Do you have any of the following:  
 
  • Sprinkler system
  • Boiler heat
  • Water powered backup on sump pump
  • Whole house water softener and/or water filtration system
  • Pool/spa/hot tub/steam bath/man-made pond 
  • Solar system
  • Fire Sprinkler system
  • Alternate sources of water, for example access to well water
 
YES: You should have a testable backflow device and will be required to have the backflow device(s) tested. 
You will be contacted to schedule the testing when the testing is due. 
 
NO: Sounds like you probably do not have a testable backflow device, but the Cross Connections inspection will ensure that you have properly installed backflow devices where needed.

 






































   


   
If you have or should have a backflow device, you will need the device tested. 

If you do not have and do not require any backflow devices, then you will not need testing.
