SEMCOG Awards Grants for Road Safety Audits Across Southeast Michigan including WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP INSTERSECTIONS

The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) has announced the allocation of eight grants to conduct formal safety performance examinations of existing or planned roads and intersections across the region. These road safety audits (RSAs) are part of SEMCOG's ongoing commitment to enhancing transportation safety and ensuring the well-being of residents.  Washington Township Supervisor Sam Previti has been working with SEMCOG to receive an RSA for Washington Township intersections.

The grants will fund comprehensive safety audits to be carried out by independent, multi-disciplinary audit teams. These teams will evaluate various aspects of road infrastructure and traffic management to identify potential hazards and recommend priority safety improvements.  Supervisor Sam Previti, "This grant will help make Washington Township safer for all residents."

Among the recipients of these grants is the Macomb County Department of Roads, which will focus its efforts on the intersections of Van Dyke Ave at 29 Mile Rd and 28 Mile Rd in Washington Township. Sam Previti, Supervisor of Washington Township, expressed his enthusiasm for the forthcoming audits, stating, "I am ecstatic about these intersections getting reviewed. Safety is our top priority, and these audits will help us ensure that our roadways are as safe as possible for all users."

The RSAs aim to enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists alike by addressing existing safety concerns and implementing proactive measures to prevent future accidents. By conducting thorough examinations and developing targeted recommendations, SEMCOG and its partners are working towards creating a transportation network that is both efficient and safe for all.

"These audits represent a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to improve transportation safety across Southeast Michigan," said Sally Smith, Executive Director of SEMCOG. "By investing in these evaluations, we are proactively identifying areas for improvement and working collaboratively with our local partners to implement effective solutions."

The results of the RSAs will inform future transportation planning and investment decisions, ensuring that resources are allocated in a manner that maximizes safety benefits for communities throughout Southeast Michigan.
