What is the meaning of public hearing?

Applicants submit proposals to the township for a variety of reasons.
A public hearing is a formal proceeding held in order to receive testimony from all interested parties – including the general public – on a proposal for consideration.
Our boards & commissions invite, welcome, encourage, and value ALL input from the community for discussion.

A public hearing is a legally required comment period on a specific action being considered by either the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals or Township Board. The purpose of a public hearing is to give everyone an opportunity to ask questions and express their views. Attending a public hearing can also provide important information on the issue/application that is the subject of the hearing.
The MICHIGAN ZONING ENABLING ACT (EXCERPT) Act 110 of 2006, 125.3103 Notice; publication; mail or personal delivery; requirements. Sec. 103., requires that a public hearing notice be published not less than 15 days before the date of the hearing. Notice required under this act shall be given to all persons to whom real property is assessed within 300 feet of the property that is the subject of the request and to the occupants of all structures within 300 feet of the subject property regardless of whether the property or structure is located in the zoning jurisdiction, (Washington Township). The Township Board has approved the publication of notices to be in The Record Newspaper and the Macomb Daily.
